Pfizer will seek emergency FDA authorization for coronavirus vaccine

Drug manufacturer Pfizer and its German partner, BioNTech, plan to seek emergency authorization Friday from the FDA for their coronavirus vaccine.

The companies said earlier this month that their vaccine was safe and 95 percent effective in a late-stage trial that enrolled nearly 44,000 participants. The U.S. government has already purchased 100 million doses of the vaccine, which is given as two shots weeks apart, and has an option to buy 500 million more.
